Rigid Media

When it comes to printing marketing materials and signage for display purposes, several materials can be considered. Foamboard, Dibond, correx, and acrylic are amongst the most popular options of rigid media. Here is what you need to know about them.

Foamex

Also known as foam board, this rigid media solution comes in a variety of thicknesses and can be printed on both sides. It is suitable for use in both indoor and outdoor areas and has a scratch-proof finish that helps keep it long-lasting and print quality highly visible. as a foam-based product, it is liable to expand when exposed to heat sources. So if installed in a frame, some space should be accounted for to allow for expansion.

Dibond

Dibond signage is made up of rigid composite material that includes plastic in the middle of aluminium sheeting. It is a sturdy material that is ideal for both indoor and outdoor displays. It is a very durable material to which self-adhesive vinyl can be applied. It can also be laminated with anti-graffiti laminate, making it ideal for outdoor displays that are unsecured.

Correx

These are plastic signs with a corrugated centre that are lightweight and durable. This signage is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, and is popularly used for real estate agency boards. They can be easily installed on any suitable surface using adhesive, screws or nails. Correx boards can be digitally printed on both sides.

Acrylic

These displays are made using acrylic which is great used for internal and external signage. The material allows for direct UV printing on both sides.

Why Rigid Media

The materials used for rigid media can include foamboard, fluted polypropylene, aluminium, acrylic, and Dibond. These materials are highly versatile and can be customised in a variety of ways to present high-resolution graphics in a variety of appealing colours. Not only are they durable, but they are also lightweight and flexible, making them easy to mount and install using just adhesive, screws, or nails.

They can either be direct UV printed or have self-adhesive vinyl applied with vivid graphics that make for a high impact in high traffic areas. Most of these materials are also made from renewable sources and recyclable.

The lightweight materials used to make up this signage mean they can be displayed in a variety of ways. Mounted on a wall, hanging from a ceiling or post, or placed on a stand near the entrance.

This also means that this media can be flexibly used for signage and POP up displays. They can also be used in place of banners and chalkboards to display promotional information on events and sales periods. They can be installed both indoors and outdoors.

However, it is important to note that some materials can expand on heating. So if placed outdoors, installation should account for this to avoid buckling. Though rigid media comes in maximum sizes, multiple boards can be combined to create a larger display if needed.
